Chairman Lee Eog-weon of the Financial Services Commission presided over the kickoff meeting of the newly launched policy review committee on financial consumer protection held on June 29. The private-public joint consultative body is made up of officials from related government ministries and public organizations and private sector experts for the designing, reviewing, and upgrading of policies on financial consumer protection. In his opening remarks, FSC Chairman Lee spoke about the importance of ensuring consumer trust first and foremost to be able to seek productive and inclusive finance measures and to continue to push for innovation in the capital market. Amid a rapidly changing digital environment in the financial sector, Chairman Lee said that the committee should work to design a new paradigm on financial consumer protection upon which more tailored support and protection measures should be made available for different consumer groups and individuals with different needs.
