Chairman Lee Eog-weon of the Financial Services Commission convened a meeting with officials from related organizations, industry groups, and financial companies to discuss response measures against recent cyberattacks in the financial industry on October 4. At the meeting, officials shared the methods and patterns of cyberattacks appeared to have been used in recent data breaches at financial companies and agreed to stay alert and quickly inspect their own internal and external cybersecurity systems to make sure to prevent further damage. Speaking about the impact of rapid digital transformation and the significance of more closely aligned services and systems between financial companies, Chairman Lee said that the cybersecurity risk and vulnerability of a financial company can easily spread across all financial sectors. As such, Chairman Lee said that it is necessary for all financial companies to step up their own cybersecurity measures to make sure to prevent additional breaches and ensure consumer protection.
